February 10, 2014

Dear Parents,

We had a great time with our Jan Brett unit! Your child should have brought home an envelope with a mitten and the animals from the story The Mitten. Please encourage them to act out the story using the props that they colored and created. This is a great literacy activity for them to practice!

For the next few weeks, our room will become a mail room! We will be learning about the mail system. I am asking that each child decorates a small shoe box at home with their parents to create a mailbox.  We would like the mailboxes to have their name on one end (that is easy to read). These boxes should have a slot on the same end as the child’s name large enough for a valentine. We will be putting these mailboxes in the children’s cubbies on Wednesday. Also during this unit students will be mailing themselves a letter. Please send in a stamp for your child by Thursday, February 13th. We would LOVE any donations of stamps, cards, envelopes, or stationary.

If you are planning on sending Valentine’s, please only send a card and be sure to put the child’s name on the envelope. If possible have your child practice writing their classmates names or if that’s too difficult, have them sign their own name on the card. We are asking that no one sends candy due to administrative request.  If you are planning on sending valentine cards please send them in on Tuesday if your child last name starts with the letter A-H. If your child’s last name starts with I-O please send them Thursday and if your child’s last name starts with the letters P-Z send them on Friday. This will help us distribute them in an organized way.

Don’t forget that there is no school on Wednesday for Lincoln’s birthday! Our letter of the week is letter Q. Please be sure to send in your Q pictures by Tuesday because of the short week!
